Three Questions for Christopher Rothko
Nov 4, 2015 - I talked with Christopher Rothko about the work of his father, the subject of his new book Mark Rothko: From the Inside Out, published this autumn by Yale University Press. 1. This group of works has a closer connection to my father. 2. Does Houston offer a special context for your father’s work? I think of Houston as maybe the central Rothko city. And as special as that feels to me, I actually don’t think it's that different from other people who love Rothko. He is trying to have such a central conversation about what it means to be human.

Virtual Cinema: A Summer in “Cane River”
Jul 19, 2020 - I remember riding a black Huffy bicycle with no GPS or plan—a time when kids wandered and wondered and didn’t think twice about swashbuckling. Bruce Sallee; Lynn S. Wyatt; ILEX Foundation; Consolato Generale D’Italia Houston; L’Alliance Française de Houston; and The Foundation for Independent Media Arts. I didn’t see Cane River until recently. Berg died in 2009, and Gee closed the store in October 2012. Generous funding is provided by Nina and Michael Zilkha; The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea; Franci Neely; Carrin Patman and Jim Derrick; Lynn S.

Making Holiday Magic, One Track at a Time
Dec 15, 2016 - Christmas Village at Bayou Bend is open through January 1. Special thanks to Department 56. While building the model, I often imagined what my granddaughter would enjoy most. At age 2, she finds trains of any size amazing and a treat almost beyond belief. See the model train set for yourself! When designing and creating the model, I kept in mind ease of disassembly for transport and storage.

Dancing with Degas
Nov 18, 2016 - Discover your own inspiration in “Degas: A New Vision,” on view in the Law Building through January 16. Images: Fig. 1. As a dancer, I do relate to Degas’s paintings, but everyone can relate to these works. Degas paints the ballerinas in a human way: tired, resting, rehearsing. Likewise, it takes years of preparation and practice to become a ballerina. Degas’s sketches inspire me to continue working on my craft so that one day, I, too, may make a masterpiece.
