    Sep 1, 2016 - I was thrilled when MFAH film curator Marian Luntz e-mailed me about working with the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston to share Matthew Barney’s River of Fundament with Houston audiences. I fully intended to do a project with Barney at White Columns, but that space was devoted to under-known artists, and Barney became famous quickly. I am a lover of long Wagner operas like Tannhäuser, so time-based artworks that use their long format to fully transport the audience to other realms are pure pleasure to me.

  4. Rothko in Reproduction: Dan Fischer’s Graphite Homage

    Dec 15, 2015 - Using a technique he calls “Xerox Realism,” Fischer photocopied the reproduction and overlaid it with a 1/8-inch grid, similar to the method Chuck Close uses to create large-scale, photorealist portraits. Fischer explained to the Guardian: “I can’t really say how one image jumps out and chooses me, or I it—it just happens.
