  7. A Force of Color: Painting-in-Action with GONZO247

May 13, 2020 - I grew up in Eastwood, a neighborhood in Houston’s East End. When I became more established as an artist, I crossed paths with the Eastwood Academy to do art projects with the students. I thought that creating an artwork in public, and installing it in a school setting, would inspire the kids. It also makes a visual connection between the MFAH and their school. It’s a powerful thing. I used this inspiration, tied it to what I do, and translated to Plexiglas. Why is a live demonstration important to you? I think the real art is the process. What you end up with is residual to the energy and work.

Emilia Duno, a senior in the International Baccalaureate Film Program at Lamar High School, chatted with Caouette (born 1972), about the movie, growing up in Houston, and the local film scene.

  9. 3 Questions for Artist Dario Robleto

Aug 12, 2019 - When I first discovered DJ culture and its core technique of sampling, I knew I had found a worldview, a philosophy of life. I am particular in the materials I use because I am counting on the meaning embedded in a material in one state (a vinyl record, a love letter, a fossil, etc.) to be entirely transported into a new physical state (the sculpture I root this interest in the audible and material back to a childhood experience most of us have had—listening inside a seashell.

  10. #TogetherAtHome with DJ Sun

May 10, 2020 - Once I graduated, I remained, and as I pursued the field of music through DJ-ing, hosting a radio show, producing live shows, and building a studio to produce music, I found immense support from Houston audiences and never had I started at the Flat as a DJ when it opened, and when the opportunity came to purchase it, I agreed to take over. That was January 2014, the same month as my first Mixed Media! What always draws my interest when I visit the Museum is the Arts of Africa collection because of the time I spent in Suriname, which has a rich connection with West Africa through the culture of the Maroons.
