February 9, 2022 - The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, to Create New Galleries for Art of the Islamic Worlds, Slated to Open in Early 2023
New galleries devoted to art from historic Islamic lands open in early 2023, more than doubling the Museum’s current gallery space to comprise one of the largest permanent displays for Islamic art in the United States.

February 4, 2022 - The MFAH Has Appointed Elizabeth Essner the Windgate Foundation Associate Curator of Craft
Elizabeth Essner will work with Cindi Strauss, the Sara and Bill Morgan Curator, to expand MFAH collections, exhibitions, and programs in the area of international craft.

December 17, 2021 - MFAH Presents “Virtual Realities: The Art of M.C. Escher from the Michael S. Sachs Collection” in March 2022
The largest and most comprehensive exhibition of works by M.C. Escher ever held, this exhibition will include more than 400 prints, drawings, watercolors, printed fabrics, constructed objects, wood and linoleum blocks, lithographic stones, sketchbooks, and the artist’s working tools.

December 17, 2021 - “Dawoud Bey: An American Project” Travels to the MFAH in March 2022
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, will host this major retrospective of influential photographer Dawoud Bey. The exhibition spans the breadth of Bey’s career, from his earliest street portraits to his most recent historical explorations.

November 9, 2021 - Sculptor Joseph Havel to Retire as Director, the Glassell School of Art
Joseph Havel will retire as director of the Glassell School of Art of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, effective June 30, 2022. Havel will return full-time to his studio, following 30 years as head of the Museum’s renowned art school.
