  1. Group Visits and Tours

    A minimum of one week advance notice is needed for self-guided visits and two weeks for docent-guided tours. Reservations are confirmed with an order number and finalized by advance payment. Looking for school tours? Discounts for self-guided group visits and docent-guided group tours are available by reservation with the purchase of 10 or more tickets through the group sales office at the email address below. For a deeper dive into the galleries, request a docent-guided tour. Policy The Museum offers tours and packages to groups of 10 or more for the Museum’s collections and selected exhibitions.

  2. Support & Volunteer

    In addition to giving tours, docents support public programming at Rienzi. What do I need to know about the docent program? No prior art history knowledge is required. Consider becoming a docent at Rienzi! The docent program was established in 1999, the year Rienzi opened to the public. Rienzi seeks to build and maintain a volunteer corps that reflects the rich diversity of the community. Docents give two tours a month and have the option of staffing programs. Docents must be able to tour for 60 minutes without a break. Individuals must be 21 years old to apply.

Docent-led tours, included with general admission, are offered:Wednesday at 11 a.m. & 2 p.m.Thursday & Friday at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. & 1 p.m.Saturday at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. & 2 p.m.Sunday at 1 p.m. & 2 p.m.  Rienzi welcomes visitors for tours, family programs, lectures, music performances, and a variety of special events.

    In addition to leading Rienzi tours, docents partake in monthly trainings, and many attend the lectures and gallery talks at the MFAH. • Consider joining the Rienzi docent program! Thank you for your interest in the Rienzi docent program! Please contact rienzi@mfah.org for more information. Rienzi’s docent program was established in 1999, the year Rienzi opened to the public. All visitors to Rienzi are personally welcomed and guided through the collection by volunteer docents.

  6. Bayou Bend Volunteer Docents

    Volunteer docents share the Bayou Bend historic house and collection with visitors with a commitment to give guided tours weekly to the public. Provisional docent classes take place on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. What are Bayou Bend volunteer docents like?   9. Saturday Members Tour | “Artful Illumination: Light and Spirituality in Art”

    January 2023 MFAH members are invited to explore the Museum’s art collections and exhibitions on special Saturday tours. Topics change monthly. In January, join a docent on a campus-wide tour exploring artistic interpretations of light as an expression of faith, spirituality, or the divine—from ancient art to contemporary.
