Hive
Directed by Blerta Basholli
(Kosovo/Switzerland/Macedonia/Albania, 2021, Digital, in Albanian with English subtitles)

Set against the backdrop of Eastern Europe’s civil unrest, Hive tells the true story of Fahrije. Like many women in her village, Fahrje lives with the anguish of her husband not returning from the war in Kosovo. To provide for her struggling family, she enlists other widows in launching a business. As she faces hostility from men who adhere to patriarchal attitudes, Fahrije takes the lead in empowering the women to change their lives. This impactful debut feature from writer-director Blerta Basholli won three awards at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.
