History Book Club “The Sun and the Moon”

History Book Club

The History Book Club presents free, bimonthly discussions about literature and art, and you’re invited. These talks focus on books about life in Europe and America during the 18th and 19th centuries, inspired by the collections of the two MFAH house museums: Bayou Bend and Rienzi.

“This true tale of science fiction . . . brings history to life.” —New York Times

Author Matthew Goodman recounts one of the most successful hoaxes in American journalism with The Sun and the Moon: The Remarkable True Account of Hoaxers, Showmen, Dueling Journalists, and Lunar Man-Bats in Nineteenth-Century New York. Set in the 1830s, the story includes such notable names as P.T. Barnum and Edgar Allan Poe.
