Grand Slam | Poetry Competition

The MFAH and Writers in the Schools (WITS) present the Grand Slam. This event is the culmination of the Meta4 Slam Series, a free youth poetry competition held across Houston. The series gives young Houston poets, rappers, emcees, and spoken-word artists the opportunity to perform and build community with other youth artists and to compete for a spot on the World Champion Meta4 Houston youth poetry slam team.

WITS connects children and youth with professional writers and spoken-word artists to unlock the joy and power of storytelling and creative expression. Through school programs, summer camps, workshops, and clubs, WITS works with thousands of students in the Houston area each year.


General admission to the MFAH is free on Thursdays, courtesy of Shell Oil Company.
