Visit Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens for an afternoon of free, family-friendly fun. 

The Children’s Texas Art Festival celebrates art—created by and for children—that helps forge a connection to Texas and American heritage.

Highlights

  • Artisan demonstrations by painter Joseph Dixon, the Houston Area Blacksmith Association, and Raum Furniture
  • Music by guitar, banjo, and gourd player JAWAD
  • Interactive play and learning at “Texas History Encounters,” hosted by Archaeology Now
  • Drumming, dancing, and tribal art with Calmecac Indigenous Organization
  • Creating fiber art in a drop-in workshop with teaching artist Deanna Santiago
  • Classical music by a trio from Monarch Chamber Players
  • Playing “Deep in the Heart of Texas” on diatonic bells
  • Discovery activities in the historic house about the lives of children in the 1600s to 1800s

Education programs at Bayou Bend receive generous funding from Houston Junior Woman's Club; Sharon G. Dies; Mary Lynn and Steve Marks; Susan Vaughan Foundation; Ralph H. and Ruth J. McCullough Foundation; Ms. Bobbie Nau; and additional generous donors.
