María Magdalena Campos-Pons is an Afro-Cuban artist whose work is deeply autobiographical. She draws from her family story to examine the global histories of enslavement, indentured labor, motherhood, and migration. About the Artist
María Magdalena Campos-Pons, born in Matanzas, Cuba, in 1959, is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work spans photography, watercolor, and installation video work. Since 2020, Campos-Pons has witnessed a surge of interest in her art as demonstrated in acquisitions by museums across the United States, including the MFAH. The retrospective María Magdalena Campos-Pons: Behold is on view through June 9 at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University.
