5A: African American Art Advisory Association

Celebrate the accomplishments of African American artists by becoming a member of the African American Art Advisory Association (5A). Founded in 1993, 5A has given vital support to the Museum’s collections, education programs, and community outreach. Over the years, 5A has continued to renew its commitment to engaging the community at large, promoting both the legacy and future of artwork created by African Americans. This patron group hosts engaging programs that include private exhibition tours, exclusive receptions, and lectures by renowned artists, curators, and historians. Membership dues go toward supporting acquisition of African or African American art for the MFAH collections, in addition to other departmental initiatives and programs that further the Museum’s mission to exhibit and interpret art for all people.

Past program highlights include:

• An evening with the Museum’s director and curators of modern and contemporary art, focusing on two major acquisitions for the collection: works by Kara Walker and Mark Bradford.
• Exclusive artist talk with photographer and native Houstonian, Earlie Hudnall Jr.
• Reception and private, curator-led exhibition tour of Multiplicity: Blackness in American Collage at the MFAH
