The Nose

William Kentridge at the Opera

This film screening, presented to complement the exhibition William Kentridge: In Praise of Shadows, is included with Museum admission. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dmitri Shostakovich’s 1928 opera The Nose reimagines the satirical 1836 short story by Nikolai Gogol about a man who wakes to find his nose is missing. In this William Kentridge collaboration with New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Paulo Szot plays the man on a quest to become whole again, and the nose itself becomes a major character.
