Art Crowd Presents Labyrinth

Directed by Jim Henson
(UK/USA, 1981, digital)
Programmed in conjunction with the exhibition Virtual Realities: The Art of M.C. Escher from the Michael S. Sachs Collection

“One of Labyrinth’s best-known scenes is a sensational finale that takes place on a set modeled on Escher staircases.” —BBC

In order to rescue her baby brother from the Goblin King (David Bowie), a teenager (Jennifer Connelly) must find her way through a mysterious labyrinth. Now a cult favorite, the musical fantasy Labyrinth features puppets created by director Jim Henson of The Muppets fame. Among the film’s many inspirations are Star Wars, Grimm’s fairy tales, and the mesmerizing art of M.C. Escher.
