Conversations with the Director

In the ongoing “Conversations with the Director” series, Gary Tinterow, Director and Margaret Alkek Williams Chair of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, engages an eclectic roster of guests in conversations about the arts.

The Museum is honored to welcome artist Raqib Shaw to Houston in conjunction with the upcoming exhibition Raqib Shaw: Ballads of East and West. The artist blends Eastern and Western influences to create mesmerizing works of art that merge fable, history, and autobiography.

This conversation offers an insider’s look at Shaw’s influences, from his childhood in the Valley of Kashmir, India, to his engagement with Western art history and Asian aesthetics and traditions.

  • $5 for MFAH members
    No late seating. Any empty seats are released five minutes before start time to a standby line. Holding seats is not allowed.

  • This program takes place in Lynn Wyatt Theater in the Kinder Building.The theater doors open at 5:30 p.m. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The Museum closes at 5 p.m., so you may enter either through the Kinder Building (5500 Main Street) or Glassell School Garage (5101 Montrose Boulevard) and take the pedestrian tunnel to the Lynn Wyatt Theater.
  • The exhibition Raqib Shaw: Ballads of East and West is on view from June 9 to September 2.
