Compensation
Compensation, the first feature from Zeinabu irene Davis (Cycles; A Powerful Thang), presents parallel and unique African American love stories of a deaf woman and a hearing man living decades apart. With inspiration from a poem written by African American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, this moving narrative depicts the struggle to overcome racism, disability, and discrimination. Davis innovatively incorporates silent-film techniques to make the film accessible to hearing and deaf viewers alike, embracing the vast possibilities of language and communication.
