Directed by Elliot Silverstein
(USA, 1965, digital)
Introduced by Doug Harris, Houston Film Critics Society
In this western comedy, Catherine “Cat” Ballou (Jane Fonda) seeks revenge when a hired gun (Lee Marvin) kills her rancher father. She enlists the help of a washed-up gunslinger (also played by Marvin) as well as a handsome bandit (Michael Callan); strikes back at the land-development company that employed the gunman; and eventually targets the assassin himself. Adding to the lively comedic mood of Cat Ballou are narrative song performances by Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye.
