Bajour charmed audiences with 232 performances before closing on June 12, 1965, and earning two Tony Award nominations: “Best Actress in a Musical” and “Best Choreography.”

On top of the pressure to be prepared for a death when they never can be, the writers get only 500 words to “enchant the reader with a once-only chance for the dead to live again.” This optimistic view of death is inspiring, as you see how a variety of people—from King of Pop Michael Jackson to the inventor of the Slinky—impact the world in their own way. “Obit” screens on September 1 & 3.

Before joining the Menil in 2016, Rabinow was the Leonard A. Lauder Curator of Modern Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Of interest to Houstonians: Bradley worked with philanthropist John de Menil to curate The De Luxe Show, a groundbreaking 1971 exhibition at the De Luxe Theater in the Fifth Ward. Wozzeck
A. L. Ballard; Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. In 1925 Alban Berg based his first opera, Wozzeck, on the 1837 Georg Büchner play about a man’s life being destroyed by the casual sadism of military bureaucracy. “It is a radical opera. . . . All the hallucinations that Büchner writes for Wozzeck are things that would never be seen in the 1830s, but were literally there in the 1910s.”

Kaitlin Rizzo is a writer, researcher, and translator working on a series of projects related to the life of Artemisia Gentileschi. Her work as a librettist has been featured at Ohio State University and the Kennedy Center’s Cartography Project. Created 400 years apart and displayed together, the paintings of Judith and Holofernes by Artemisia Gentileschi and Kehinde Wiley raise contemporary issues through a historical lens.
