The MFAH is home to three significant light-based artworks installed in permanent thoroughfares that connect the Museum’s sprawling campus. The long-term care of these artworks presents a variety of maintenance, conservation, administrative, and logistical challenges. To meet the needs of each piece, the conservation department has developed a collaborative strategy involving the monitoring, documentation, and periodic examination of the illuminated elements, electrical systems, architectural spaces, and associated materials and techniques.
Conservators Caroline Gil-Rodríguez and Nick Pedemonti present a lecture about the ongoing conservation work on these three immersive installations:

- Ólafur Elíasson, Sometimes an underground movement is an illuminated bridge, 2020
- James Turrell, The Light Inside, 1999
Per Knutås, chairman of the conservation department, introduces the lecture and moderates the Q&A session that follows.
