Houston artist Alexis Pye joins curators Ann Dumas and Alison de Lima Greene for a conversation about Vertigo of Color: Matisse, Derain, and the Origins of Fauvism. They discuss the inspirations for the art in the exhibition, as well as the influence of these boldly colorful works. When you visit the Vertigo of Color galleries, you can listen to Pye’s commentary in the audio guide.

- The lecture takes place in Lynn Wyatt Theater in the Kinder Building. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. To see the exhibition, located on the upper level of the Law Building, an ALL ACCESS ticket is needed.

About the Artist
- Alexis Pye, a Detroit native now based in Houston, explores the tradition of painting as a way to express the Black body outside of its social constructs to evoke playfulness, wonder, Blackness, and joy amidst adversity.
About the MFAH Curators
- Ann Dumas, consulting curator for European art, is co-curator of Vertigo of Color: Matisse, Derain, and the Origins of Fauvism.
- Alison de Lima Greene is the Isabel Brown Wilson Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art.
