I believe we just need more plants to help increase the numbers. Also, we need to stop spraying insecticide. They prefer to be watered from the water tray, so when the tray is dry, you know it’s time to water again.  What plant are you most excited to see bloom in the gardens at Bayou Bend and Rienzi?

  5. A Taste of the Scottish North Highlands in Houston

    Oct 5, 2018 - Houstonians won’t have to travel across the pond to find a taste of British royal fare to pair with experiencing the Museum’s exhibition Tudors to Windsors: British Royal Portraits from Holbein to Warhol. The hope is that opportunities like the Mey Selections will lead to a sustainable and balanced way of life for generations to continue to thrive in the Highlands. This 1950 portrait in Tudors to Windsors shows, from left to right, King George VI and his wife, Queen Consort Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, with their daughters Elizabeth and Margaret.

  6. A Confessional Sculpture by Louise Bourgeois

    Mar 15, 2017 - In 1938 Bourgeois moved to New York with her husband, art historian Robert Goldwater. Convinced that she could not conceive a child, they returned briefly to France to adopt a French boy, Michel. Her perception of the human figure is poignant as she explores the relationship of the child to the family, and of the individual to the group. The human scale of the sculpture and the placement of the figures on a platform on the ground level invite you to interact with the group and to engage in a confessional artistic experience.

  10. An Incident in Bell Park

    Aug 29, 2013 - As conservators, we try to rectify any deliberate damage to artworks as quickly as possible. Just a few hours baking in the sun had made the silver paint a lot harder to remove, but even so, we were able to get rid of the paint completely with solvents. The city did not have anyone on staff who could address this, and it was likely to be a long time before the sculpture could be cleaned. We offered to go and remove the marks.
