    Aug 12, 2020 - Before or after, experience Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power at the MFAH, the final venue for the exhibition’s three-year tour. Plan ahead for your visit. This virtual lecture series receives generous funding from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Under Eileen Morris, founding artistic director, Ensemble Theatre produces and directs works by Black playwrights with Black actors, and supports a pipeline for Black youth to experience acting and staging.

What always draws my interest when I visit the Museum is the Arts of Africa collection because of the time I spent in Suriname, which has a rich connection with West Africa through the culture of the Maroons. For the past six years, the popular MFAH Mixed Media party series has come to you under the curatorial direction of DJ Sun.

    For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, each host city has its own official poster. Plan Your Visit This program is included with Museum admission. The lecture takes place in Lynn Wyatt Theater in the Kinder Building. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Artist Stephanie Leal was selected to create the official Houston Host City Poster, and her winning design is primed for international visibility.

  8. Collector Conversation | Turkmen Textiles and Jewelry

    He is joined by Anushka Hosain, curatorial assistant for Art of the Islamic Worlds. Following the talk, the audience is invited to a tour of the collection. Plan Your Visit This event is included with Museum admission. McMullan Award for stewardship and scholarship in Islamic rugs and textiles. In 2015, he received the field’s highest international accolade, the George Hewitt Myers Award for lifetime achievement in the textile arts. Lauded as a landmark installation by Hali magazine, the collection is on view in the Hossein Afshar Galleries for Art of the Islamic Worlds.
