Presented in conjunction with the Hirsch Library exhibition Looking North: Arctic Exploration in Print

Emma Jackson, library assistant and exhibition coordinator, discusses how imagery of the polar North permeated the print culture of the 19th and early 20th century. By tracing the artistic echoes of the golden age into the modern day, she sheds new light on the era's expedition narratives, newspaper articles, natural history illustration, children’s literature, and photography.
