A Q&A with the artist follows this presentation.
 
For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, each host city has its own official poster. Artist Stephanie Leal was selected to create the official Houston Host City Poster, and her winning design is primed for international visibility.   
  
In this lecture, Leal talks about growing up in a Mexican household surrounded by art, studying at the University of Houston, designing for the Houston Dynamo, and ultimately winning the FIFA World Cup Host City Poster contest. As she walks the audience through her design process, Leal highlights how Houston, her heritage, and her love of soccer shaped the final work while also centering on her perspective as a woman in sports and design.

Prior to the lecture, watch professional soccer players at the Fútbol Freestyle Competition in the lobby of the Glassell School of Art starting at 5 pm, presented by CAFA and Volt League.

About the Speaker
Born in Monterrey, Mexico, and raised in Houston, Leal is passionate about using art to tell stories. A University of Houston graduate with a degree in Fine Arts and Art History, she previously worked as the lead designer for the Houston Dynamo and Dash, blending motion graphics, photography, and illustration to bring creative ideas to life.
