Jun 13, 2022 - “The Sugar Shack will take pride of place in the Museum’s newest home for modern and contemporary art, the Nancy and Rich Kinder Building, where it can be appreciated by our visitors in the context of works in the permanent collection “As I’ve said many times, acquiring The Sugar Shack was for me the realization of a childhood dream. I know that Ernie Barnes’s masterwork will be as inspirational for all those who will see it as it has been for us.” His father worked as a shipping clerk for Liggett Myers Tobacco Company in Durham.

Artist + Curators in Conversation “Vertigo of Color”
They discuss the inspirations for the art in the exhibition, as well as the influence of these boldly colorful works. When you visit the Vertigo of Color galleries, you can listen to Pye’s commentary in the audio guide. Plan Your Visit This program is included with Museum admission. The lecture takes place in Lynn Wyatt Theater in the Kinder Building. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
