James Turrell: The Light Inside
All are from the collection of the MFAH, and most have been created for this exhibition. Also on view is The Light Inside, the Museum’s beloved light tunnel, commissioned by Isabel B. and Wallace S. Raised in a Quaker household and coming of age in the radical climate of the 1960s, Turrell has created some of the most beautiful art of our time, treating light as a material presence in perfectly calculated installations.

Feb 22, 2017 - Our attention is immediately arrested by the artwork’s vivid realism and monumental scale. We may also empathize with this sleeping man, and wonder where his dreams take him. Or the old couple, locked in an eternal moment when affection is both offered and taken for granted. In Mueck’s universe, each stage of life is precious, both transient and timeless. The qualities that make it appear to be real—for example the way in which flesh slides downward to meet the support—also make the object unreal, because an actual mask would not respond to gravity in this manner.

With everyone at home, what are some of the new online courses available to students?
