2011 Core Exhibition

The 2011 Core Exhibition features work by artists-in-residence Nick Barbee, Lourdes Correa-Carlo, Fatima Haider, Steffani Jemison, Gabriel Martinez, Julie Ann Nagle, Kelly Sears, and Clarissa Tossin.

“Stay the Course”: An Interview with Artist Joyce J. Scott
Jan 16, 2019 - If someone sees my work, they can see that those cultures have a lot to offer, and that I have a lot to offer. Activism is primary and primal. Some say your work challenges the concept of jewelry as a wearable decoration. Scott’s work lives at the intersection of craft histories, contemporary art, figurative sculpture, storytelling, and political activism. Do you consider your work activism? Joyce Scott: It is absolutely activism. The strongest form of social activism occurs one-on-one between human beings.

This comparison allows scientists to predict how much light work can be exposed to before the art begins to fade. Mellon Research Scientist at the MFAH and the Menil, and I worked to test the lightfastness of 12 different areas of the work.

“What Is Home?” Daniel Anguilu’s Family Day Installation
Dec 26, 2017 - Anguilu visited the MFAH to create a special work of art during “Spend the Day at HOME,” a free Family Day on December 2. The event, which included art activities and performances, celebrated HOME—So Different, So Appealing, an exhibition featuring work by U.S. The installation became a collaborative community project as visitors were encouraged to participate by adding their own marks to the work, titled What Is Home?, throughout the day.

See the Work of Two Great Modernists in Houston While Georges Braque: A Retrospective is on view, the Menil Collection presents a pair of exhibitions devoted to the work of renowned Surrealist artist René Magritte (1898– It is the first comprehensive museum survey of Braque’s work seen in the United States in 25 years. The exhibition draws on the deep collections of Braque’s work at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, with additional loans gathered from public and private art collections across Europe and the United States.
