Wim Wenders: Portraits Along the Road
Wenders earned an international reputation as a cofounder of the New German Cinema movement in the 1970s, and his remarkable filmography since then includes award-winning features and documentaries. The Museum is pleased to participate in the international celebration of talented German filmmaker Wim Wenders (born 1945), taking advantage of new digital restorations.

Olafur Eliasson: The collectivity project
Over time, a collective creation takes form. This interactive installation was conceived in 2005 by Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson (born 1967). Sarofim Campus and new Glassell School of Art. The human-scale work of art encourages visitors to engage in new ways of thinking about Houston’s built environment and social spaces. Most recently, Olafur Eliasson: The collectivity project was on view at the High Line in New York City (2015). The Houston presentation coincides with the October groundbreaking for the Museum's Fayez S.

Preparations Begin
Aug 31, 2015 - By spring, passersby will see the new structure emerging on Montrose, slab by pre-cast slab. A webcam installed on a nearby roof will provide 24/7 live coverage. Things will kick off with a free, block-party special edition of Mixed Media on the evening of Friday, October 16. Meanwhile, over the summer, workers dug underground along Montrose, and across to Main, to open passages and install piping for the new power lines that will serve the expanded campus.

—New York Times Plan Your Visit This program is included with Museum admission. The lecture takes place in the Lynn Wyatt Theater in the Kinder Building. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. He lives in Paris but calls New York City his home. Signed copies of the book, a biography of fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, are available for purchase at the lecture.

In the Studio: Craft in Postwar America, 1950–1970
The result was the birth of a new field: Studio Craft, which embraced both functional and sculptural forms. In the Studio showcases the early decades of the field when artists championed a revival of traditional skills. Providing a snapshot of craft across America, the works of art in this exhibition are made by many of the masters who established new aesthetics and methods of creating in their respective mediums. The period produced distinctive regional centers of craft in California, New York, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, each with its own aesthetics, techniques, and stylistic identity.

Rienzi Takes Center Stage
Mar 13, 2019 - From Houston to New York City Inspired by their love of Broadway music and theater, the Mastersons immersed themselves in New York City’s scene for nearly a decade. Starring Chita Rivera Bajour, adapted from Joseph Mitchell’s series of short stories published in the New Yorker, follows the story of an anthropologist studying Romany gypsy thieves roaming modern-day New York. Although the production had only a 13-performance run, The Lady of the Camellias closed with Tony Award nominations for “Best Featured Actor in a Play,” “Best Costume Design,” and “Best Scenic Design.”

May 21, 2025 - Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Julia Stoscheck Collection, Düsseldorf; the Rubell Family Collection; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Set against a soundscape of gongs and chimes, the piece invites viewers into an immersive, contemplative environment where past materials and ideas are recast into new, unpredictable forms. Trained on over a decade of her artworks, writings, and working processes, the software functions as more than an archive—it is an active, evolving system capable of producing new work in her absence.
