Ixcanul I always encourage filmgoers to come to the screenings presented by our guest filmmakers, who make Latin Wave even more special. Latin Wave, our biggest annual film festival, returns from April 28 to May 1 with 11 new films from Latin America. Every year is a little different: The 2016 selection has a strong theme of young protagonists coming of age.

Dec 12, 2024 - “The Museum had only a handful of British drawings before this initiative began and the Stuart Collection has now become a hallmark at our institution. British artists followed suit, wandering with and without sponsorship to be inspired by ancient ruins, the Italian countryside and the majesty of the Alps. Its cornerstone is Constable’s A View on the Banks of the River Stour (1809-16), an oil sketch that showcases the artist’s mastery at capturing fleeting atmospheric effects as he sketched in open air.

The “Confident Exuberance” of Louise Nevelson & Dorothy Hood
Nov 2, 2018 - It is particularly exciting to see Hood’s final canvases of the 1980s side-by-side with Nevelson’s Mirror Shadow XII—compositions that explode with barely contained energy. To the best of our knowledge, Louise Nevelson and Dorothy Hood never met, although their lives intersected in interesting ways. They had friends and acquaintances in common, including Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.

Sep 1, 2016 - The Egyptians, without the advantage of scientific images, made stories of both our bodies and spirits, separating the organs after death to be guarded by gods on what was understood as an actual journey into other realms. His newest film, River of Fundament, deals with mythic ways of understanding our bodily functions. Our bodies are earthly vessels that transform foodstuffs into both our life force and feces.
