Galante has served on the Museum’s subcommittees for European art, Latin American art, and American painting and sculpture, and she continues to serve on the subcommittees for film, modern and contemporary art, and prints and De Havilland graciously accepted the invitation to suggest 10 favorite films from her career for the Museum to screen, and in fact provided a list of 12.

Working at the Crossroads: Fazal Sheikh in the City of Widows
May 19, 2017 - Chanting at ashrams, the veiled women pray for moksha, a higher state in which they are released from the cycle of reincarnation. For instance, a silhouetted monkey in Dawn along the Yamuna echoes the story of one widow who believes that her deceased daughter visits her, reincarnated as a monkey. This “city of widows” is equally known for the thousands of women who migrate to the sacred area after losing their husbands. Some of the widows are even forced out by their own families.

Its elegant form and the subtle humanity of its hand-worked surface will fully animate this new gathering place for Houston.” The installation process began early Monday morning, March 26.
