    This opportunity is made possible by Every Shelter, a nonprofit organization founded in Houston by Scott Key and Sam Brisendine, stemming from their work studying architecture at Rice University.  Team members from Every Shelter offer tours of the shelter each day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. June 20–26, 2022 Since 2001, June 20 has been designated as World Refugee Day to honor the global refugee population.

    Jun 4, 2025 - Frida: The Making of an Icon will be organized along themes that address how artists across five decades have responded to Kahlo’s work and appropriated it: from Kahlo’s Surrealist contemporaries of the 1930s to the communities Accompanying the exhibition is a significant catalogue published by the MFAH and Yale University Press, with contributions from across a range of social, historical, and art-historical perspectives, as well as historical documents “The exhibition reveals how the different facets of Kahlo’s complex persona(lity), which she so carefully crafted and projected, were adapted again and again over her decades-long transformation into an icon.

  8. The Artist and the Book | Roberto Tejada and Lisa Olstein in Conversation

    Increasingly, contemporary artists make books and research central to their artistic practice, mining the past in order to create new narratives. In addition to her published works, Olstein is the lyricist for the rock band Cold Satellite. Lisa Olstein is the Ellen Clayton Garwood Centennial Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Texas at Austin. She has authored six poetry collections, as well as two non-fiction works.

I’ve so enjoyed hearing from the experts who instruct the family classes and how they tie hands-on experiences to the Museum exhibitions. We love having access to the members preview days where we get premier access to world-renowned exhibitions. We were so excited to experience the only U.S. stop for the Vincent van Gogh exhibition.
