  1. Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian: Convertibles and Polygons

    Farmanfarmaian (born in Iran in 1924) is keenly aware of the mystical implications of geometry in Islamic art. The installation has been conceived as part of the museum’s larger celebration of the arts of the Islamic world. In a career that spans more than five decades, Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian has balanced techniques and imagery drawn from Islamic decoration with the innovations of the Minimalist avant-garde.

    Sep 17, 2017 - The choice of Farhad Moshiri’s Flying Carpet as the opening work for this groundbreaking exhibition is deliberate: For Western viewers, the Persian carpet is one of the most recognizable forms of art from Islamic worlds.
