We cut much of the mortar out from where the disc attached to a pedestal, not thinking twice about what was underneath. After pacing out the site, taking measurements, and doing a bit of research, all went smoothly this summer for our crew of six—and we were even rewarded with a little discovery. One of the many things we had to plan for in demolishing the Glassell Studio School building was making sure none of the sculptures in Cullen Sculpture Garden would be in harm's way.

The works in his renowned Choreographic Objects reveal the ways we consciously and unconsciously move through space and time, interact with one another, and respond to both the potential and the limits of our own bodies.

A Lifelong Passion for Film Leads to the MFAH
Dec 1, 2021 - The lineup may not have been age-appropriate for a preschooler, but it opened the door to a lifelong passion for film. My thanks to the MFAH film program for all the years of enjoyment, and for the years to come in Brown Auditorium Theater and the new Lynn Wyatt Theater. My grandfather made a booster seat for me to use in the projection booth, and there I sat for hours watching films like Old Yeller, Attack of the 50-Foot Woman, Psycho, and Village of the Damned.

MFAH Opens New Galleries for Art of the Islamic Worlds on March 5
Jan 23, 2023 - And we are immensely grateful to Hossein Afshar, creator of perhaps the most extensive collection of Iranian art in private hands, for placing his collection on long-term loan so that we may enhance our effort to reflect the city The MFAH has devoted permanent gallery space to Islamic art for more than a decade, and the new Afshar galleries nearly double previous display space for Islamic art. “The new galleries are a culmination of the strong partnership between the Museum, our dynamic Houston communities, and an extraordinary historical collection,” said Aimée Froom, curator, Art of the Islamic Worlds at the MFAH.
