  3. Last Chance to See Video Art

    Nov 9, 2012 - This year has been groundbreaking for video-art exhibitions in Houston, and Frater’s show is a compelling addition to the mix. Kenyan-born and Brooklyn-based Mutu is known for her watercolor and collage work, so being able to view two videos in which she acts is a rare opportunity. In the spring, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston presented Perspectives 178: CINEPLEX, which simulated a “cinémathèque space for a celebration of the expansive nature of moving image media and the power of montage.”

  5. Lost Treasure of the Jewish Ghetto of Venice

    The treasures remained untouched for more than 60 years, until they were accidentally discovered, and they have now been restored by Venetian Heritage Inc. Among the works that relate to dining traditions are silver vegetable plates, used during Passover Seders, and a silver ewer and basin, used for the washing of hands prior to eating. These works of art are on display in America for the first time in Lost Treasure of the Jewish Ghetto of Venice. The MFAH presentation is complemented by Venetian paintings from the same time period.

    Sep 12, 2012 - The International Center for the Arts of the Americas (ICAA) was established with the Latin American Art Department. The phased, multi-year launch began with 2,500 documents from Argentina, Mexico and the American Midwest, capping the 10th-anniversary year for the Latin American program at the MFAH. The online archive is available worldwide, free of charge at www.icaadocs.mfah.org and is intended as a catalyst for the future of a field that has been notoriously lacking in accessible resources.
