  3. Azalea Trail’s Blooms Mark Rienzi’s 20th Anniversary

On March 6, 1999, Rienzi opened to the public for the first time during Azalea Trail—but the estate was getting lots of attention for azaleas much earlier. This 1999 photograph shows visitors waiting for Rienzi’s first Azalea Trail as the MFAH house museum for European decorative arts and paintings.

  9. Vitality Arts Workshop: Fabric as Canvas

    Plan Your Visit This workshop takes place in Studio 12 on Level 2 of the Glassell School of Art. In this hands-on mixed media workshop geared toward older adults, participants use decorative fabric as the base for their own paintings. Attendees learn to stretch and prepare fabric for acrylic paint, then plan a composition that works with the fabric's existing colors and patterns.
