Off-site Exhibition: MFA Contemporary @ Heights Mercantile

Thomson wishes to focus attention on “the role of the desert in the cultural imagination as a sort of pure and indomitable wasteland beyond civilization.” The MFAH and Heights Mercantile partnered to create MFA Contemporary @ Heights Mercantile, featuring a Museum-curated gallery space and free art-making activities for families.

Kaima MarieUsing collage to discover the social implications of identity, Kaima Marie gives specific attention to the narratives surrounding urbanism and capitalism as they incubate in individual, familial, and social tropes. She has showcased nationally in group exhibitions, including the Glendale Library in California, Houston Museum of African American Culture, Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, and San Antonio Art League and Museum.

Caught in the Act | Drew Bacon on William Kentridge and the Art of Stop-Motion
August 24, 2023 Stop-motion animation is vital to the history of film, from its first experimental decade to the 2022 movie Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. He holds a BFA in painting and drawing with a minor in art history from Pratt Institute in New York and an MFA in experimental animation from California Institute of the Arts. On Thursdays, the Museum is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with free general admission.
