Faking It: Manipulated Photography before Photoshop
The captivating images in this international loan exhibition offer a new understanding of photographic history and the medium’s relationship to visual truth. They aim to convince the eye, even if the mind rebels at the scenarios they conjure, such as a woman bathing in a glass of champagne or a man juggling his own head. Digitally altered photographs may be commonplace today, but they are nothing new. The ability to modify camera images is as old as photography itself—only the methods have changed.

Sep 30, 2015 - In the 1930s Rothko depicted scenes of New York streets and subways. At the same time, Pollock, a student of Thomas Hart Benton, painted rural landscapes. Few artists in this loosely affiliated circle of painters, however, considered themselves “Abstract Expressionists,” “Action Painters,” or a “New York School”—terms applied by curators and critics attempting to define these artists “Abstract Expressionism” refers to the art movement that flourished in New York in the 1940s and 1950s.

May 26, 2016 - New executive chef Marlies Wasterval is hard at work serving up Italian fare with a Texas flair. The regular menu is great, but it’s also a lot of fun for me—and the customers too, I think—to try something new every week. Also, I love the brunch. I personally am not a brunch eater, but I love to serve it! What new aspects of the menu are you most excited about? I think the most appealing change is having running specials.
