    On the expedition, Miller executed more than 100 field sketches, which became the inspiration for his work over the next three decades. A six-month journey to the Rocky Mountains in 1837 provided artist Alfred Jacob Miller (1810–1874) with a lifetime of subjects to paint: mountain men in the fur trade, Native American life and traditions, panoramic landscapes This exhibition is organized by the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and is made possible by the Bank of America Art in Our Communities program.
