“Monet and the Seine” Brings an Icy Wonderland to Houston

Jan 2, 2015 - He set up his easel—and a coal-heated stove for warmth—along the Seine and proceeded to capture the glistening winter landscape. In addition to these winter scenes, Monet and the Seine features nearly 50 other examples of the busy, ever-changing French waterway that fascinated the artist throughout his life. Ice Floes Monet revisited his icy theme when the Seine froze again during the winter of 1892, as seen in this depiction of the river’s surface, glassy and mirrorlike—a reminder of Monet’s passion for its reflective qualities.

Fall Art Classes for Adults

The fall 2020 semester offers an exciting slate of 2D and 3D courses for adults, from painting and ceramics to assemblage and jewelry making. Register for fall classes at the Glassell School of Art. Choose from socially distanced in-studio courses, or opt for virtual classes online. You can also enhance your arts education with art-history classes. SC: The dynamic, changing environment of the MFAH is invigorating, and I love sharing that experience with visitors, but what I love the most is when students leave excited about bringing their families back to visit. SC: I was looking for a permanent volunteer position, as there were fewer opportunities for me to help in my children's classrooms as they got older.
