  3. Vitality Arts Workshop: Textile Conservation

    In this hands-on workshop geared toward older adults, participants get a rare behind-the-scenes look at textile conservation at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Afterward, participants return to Glassell for a repair session working with damaged textiles and leave with practical skills in basic quilt care and conservation techniques.   The session begins at the Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation Center for Conservation, where Sara Ludueña, assistant conservator for textiles, leads a short presentation and guided viewing of quilted objects from the MFAH collection

    Great Freedom tells the story of Hans (Franz Rogowski), who is imprisoned repeatedly under Paragraph 175, a law criminalizing homosexuality. Over the course of decades, he develops an unlikely, yet tender bond with his cellmate (Georg Friedrich), a convicted murderer. Visiting Guidelines Masks are recommended in Museum auditoriums.   7. Magical and Mystical Oaxaca: Celebrating Oaxacan Art and Culture

    The works on view showcase a diverse range of printmaking techniques, including woodcut, etching, and lithography. Magical and Mystical Oaxaca aims to foster cultural exchange and provide a unique opportunity to engage with Oaxacan art. Works by Saul Castro, Didier Mayes, Ixrael Montes, and Rolando Rojas create a powerful and compelling presentation that celebrates the richness of Oaxacan contemporary art.

    The series, titled Mike Kelley, now comprises 17 projections, each a variant on a single tree that passes through the four seasons: going from bare, to tender green, to autumnal incandescence, and back to the barren boughs of At the same time, the boughs gyrate in a sinuous ballet, implying the larger earth cycles of wind, storm, and change. Mike Kelley, 14 entered the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in 2011.

    Jul 23, 2019 - However, prior to this, Miss Hogg made a less-known but significant gift to the Museum of early 20th-century modern European and North American prints and drawings. The Museum will showcase a selection of these works on paper. Miss Hogg was one of the first American collectors of Modern art in Texas when avant-garde art was still generally misunderstood. This exhibition marks the 80th anniversary of Miss Hogg’s first significant gift of early 20th-century works on paper in 1939 to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston—a donation that she would continue throughout the next decade.
