The Art of the Short Film
Sep 14, 2015 - Filmgoers receive a ballot and vote for their favorite film and actor; watch for our announcement of the winners here and on social media. Quite often our audiences' taste aligns with the favorites worldwide. Short films have always been part of the Museum's year-round offerings, and our audiences enjoy them very much. Since we have several shorts programs coming up, I've been thinking about short-form filmmaking lately.

Close-Up on “Black Art through the Lens”
Jul 21, 2020 - Plan ahead for your visit. This virtual lecture series receives generous funding from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. These photographers know that there is much more work to be done, and I hope our discussion will be another intervention as we learn more about how they make and create images. In viewing photographs of social protest for human rights and civil rights, we are reminded that our actions today will affect the future, just as the actions of determined individuals did during the Civil Rights movement that

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Houston Cinema Arts Festival
Oct 26, 2018 - Opening-night films have often featured musical performances, which I like to add in order to accentuate the liveness of our events. Many, if not most, of my greatest HCAF memories over the past 10 years took place at the MFAH, which has hosted HCAF screenings since our beginning. Over the years, our programming at the MFAH has included major upcoming theatrical releases, many of which went on to gain Academy Award recognition.

May 15, 2018 - The drama and beauty of the design, matched to an exceptionally functional and durable building made specifically for art-making practices, will challenge the imaginations of our faculty and our students.” The new building brings our mission as the teaching wing of the MFAH to an entirely new level. Art for the Mind and Spirit
Sep 7, 2012 - Anyone who knows anything about Houston knows that our city is famous for its massive, state-of-the-art Medical Center. The children are not always able to visit the museum in person, so Art for the Mind and Spirit has to be creative with its teaching materials. “What I take away with me from every visit is the awareness of just how much the artistic process can affect a child’s mood in a positive way. I see their self-confidence increase and their spirits uplifted.”
