The Art of the Short Film

Quite often our audiences' taste aligns with the favorites worldwide. Martin Scorsese memorably interviewed his parents early in his career for a short film, Italianamerican. Short films have always been part of the Museum's year-round offerings, and our audiences enjoy them very much. Since we have several shorts programs coming up, I've been thinking about short-form filmmaking lately.

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Houston Cinema Arts Festival
Oct 26, 2018 - The opening-night film for this year’s festival, screening on November 8, is a documentary musical. Maria by Callas is catnip for opera fans. Another coup is Roma, the new film by Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Y tu Mamá También) that has bowled over the critics. Opening-night films have often featured musical performances, which I like to add in order to accentuate the liveness of our events.
