Art Workshop | Ritual Light: Making Chanukah Menorahs
In the art-making workshop that follows, create a one-of-a-kind menorah using found objects of wood, stone, and glass. No previous art experience necessary. First, Houston artist Ellen Orseck leads a discussion in the galleries of the exhibition Beauty and Ritual: Judaica from the Jewish Museum, New York. Space in the workshop is limited, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Art-making supplies are provided. Both the exhibition and the workshop are located on the lower level of the Beck Building.

Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Gainsborough: The Treasures of Kenwood House, London
The MFAH presentation is the first stop on a limited, four-venue U.S. tour that provides a rare opportunity for visitors to view superb paintings that have never before traveled outside the United Kingdom. These magnificent paintings, which usually reside at Kenwood House, a neoclassical villa in London, make their U.S. debut at the MFAH. Acquired mainly from 1887 to 1891, the earl’s purchases reveal a taste for the portraiture, landscape, and 17th-century Dutch and Flemish works typically found in English aristocratic collections.

MFAH Opens New Galleries for Art of the Islamic Worlds on March 5
Jan 23, 2023 - Textiles and carpets also played a significant role in sacred and secular ceremonies, as well as in economic trade. The MFAH has devoted permanent gallery space to Islamic art for more than a decade, and the new Afshar galleries nearly double previous display space for Islamic art. The opening of the galleries culminates a major, longtime initiative at the MFAH to develop special exhibitions, new scholarship, signature acquisitions, and dynamic public programs in Islamic art.
