    Jun 4, 2012 - More than 50 years after Abrams purchased his first drawing, it’s clear to see he doesn’t regret it for a minute. With nine works by Rembrandt and nearly 50 sheets by his pupils and followers, the exhibition spans this range of subject matter. For Abrams, one of the great things about drawings is that they are often more spontaneous than paintings and reflect the thinking of the artist at a particular moment or time.

    The first exhibition dedicated to photographers working for Black magazines in America during these critical decades, Bold and Brilliant presents vintage spreads and more than 100 images by 50 photographers. Because nearly all of the images were produced for magazines—the primary way readers of these eras encountered photography—most of the photographs are displayed for the first time.
