  1. Fire/Works: Enamel Art through the Centuries

    Enamel is a form of glass that is mixed with metallic oxides for color and applied to a metal or glass base through the act of firing at high temperatures. In the 13th and 14th centuries, the French town of Limoges became a major producer of enamel that remained fashionable into the early 18th century. The medium can emulate the hues of precious stones, create a smooth glaze over three-dimensional forms, and produce detailed designs. Enamel types have evolved over the centuries.

  3. W. Eugene Smith and James Nachtwey

    Oct 8, 2012 - The images are digitally printed on a 30-foot seamless sheet, and the relentless views of life-saving surgery in modern military hospitals are a dramatic contrast to Dr. Ceriani’s modest facilities. The major Nachtwey work in this exhibition is The Sacrifice, a mural of 60 photographs shot in military operating rooms in Iraq in 2006 and 2007. Adamson is Artistic Director for Design Doha, a biennial in Qatar; curator at large for the Vitra Design Museum; and editor of Material Intelligence, a quarterly online journal published by the Chipstone Foundation.
