    Aug 11, 2015 - The exhibition, on view from September 5 to November 1, 2015, introduces visitors to the vibrant tradition of handmade, utilitarian pottery that flourished in mid- to late-19th-century Texas. The resulting research has added significant information to the William J. Hill Texas Artisans and Artists Archive, Bayou Bend’s free online archive that documents the lives, works, and products of artisans and artists working in Texas prior to 1900.

To this end, I am looking for images and signs.” Comprising 26 necklaces and brooches created since the mid-1970s, The Jewelry of Dorothea Prühl is the first exhibition in the United States dedicated to the artist.

    Jan 26, 2016 - In 1823, Winterhalter moved to Munich to study at the art academy as well as with Joseph Karl Stieler, a renowned portraitist and court painter to the Bavarian king. Winterhalter was praised for the subtle intimacy of his portraits and for his ability to create an image that his sitters wished to project. Following the fall of France’s Second Empire in 1870, Winterhalter’s reign as court painter came to a sudden end. He returned to his native Baden and died two years later.

In order to elicit excitement and draw attention to Martínez’s positive ambition, I drew inspiration from details in his painting, such as the variety and delineation of colors and the flowers scattered throughout.     Jul 18, 2024 - “We are enormously grateful to Mrs. Plonsker, who assembled the collection through the lasting relationships she forged with artists over many visits to Cuba from 2005 to 2020.” “Combined in this exhibition with works already in the Museum’s holdings, the collection allows us to chronicle that story from the ‘epic generation,’ whose work would define the image of the Cuban Revolution, to the succeeding Again, national symbols appear—the Cuban flag, currency, stamps, historic events—but this time with a knowing nod to their emptiness.

We wanted a program that encouraged teens to decide for themselves that the MFAH was a cool enough place to be during their limited free time, so we decided on the HOMAGO (hanging out, messing around, geeking out) model. Just over a year ago, I embarked on a challenge to create a teen program that happened outside of school.
