  6. Bold and Brilliant: The Rise of Black American Magazines, 1930–1970

    Plan Your Visit Tickets available soon. This exhibition is located on the Lower Level of the Beck Building. Because nearly all of the images were produced for magazines—the primary way readers of these eras encountered photography—most of the photographs are displayed for the first time. By providing access to the rare magazines, the online resource will ensure that these important cultural touchstones are available for generations to come.

    When you visit the MFAH house museums during Azalea Trail, it’s best to park at Bayou Bend and take the shuttle bus to Rienzi.   Education programs at Rienzi receive generous funding from the Sterling-Turner Foundation; Alkek and Williams Foundation; Carroll Sterling and Harris Masterson III Endowment; and the Caroline Wiess Law Endowment for Rienzi.
