This lecture connects the meaning between artworks in the Arts of Japan Gallery and the exhibition Floating World: A.A.Murakami. Curator Bradley Bailey discusses how looking at contemporary art through a historical lens brings new meaning. Learn about the art of Ensō and the significance of the Edo period to contemporary art.

About the Speaker
Bradley Bailey is the Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Curator and Chair of Asian Art at the MFAH. He has curated exhibitions on Japanese American and contemporary art at the Mead Art Museum, Yale University Art Gallery, Recession Art, and Ackland Art Museum. His recent touring exhibitions include None Whatsoever: Zen Paintings from the Gitter-Yelen Collection and Meiji Modern: Fifty Years of New Japan, and he led the groundbreaking reinstallation of the Arts of Korea Gallery at the MFAH.
