This program complements the exhibition From India to the World: Textiles from the Parpia Collection.
Indian, Indonesian, and Sri Lankan dances showcase the beautiful and diverse native fabrics used as costumes. For centuries, India has inspired other Asian countries to weave fabrics and patterns imitating and reimagining materials and designs based on the original Indian prototypes. Just as clothes define a person, fabrics define each dance form, making the dances distinct, beautiful, and memorable.

About the Program
“Weaves & Moves” was conceived by dancer and choreographer Rathna Kumar, founder of Houston’s Anjali Center for Performing Arts. This performance features dancers Saliya Ilankoon, Chloe Jarrell, Venugopal Josyula, Namratha Satish, Prerna Shrivathsan, and Surabi Veeraraghavan.
