Hew Locke is one of the most distinctive and thought-provoking multimedia artists working today. Born in Scotland in 1959, he moved with his family to Guyana in 1966. In the spirit of the Hew Locke’s Caribbean upbringing and influence, the MFAH presents Tropical Steelpan Orchestra in concert. The steelpan, a lively instrument that is both a symbol of creativity and reinvention within a traditional practice, shares many of the sentiments exhibited by the works on view in Hew Locke: Passages.
