Artist Joyce J. Scott’s work lives at the intersection of craft histories, contemporary art, figurative sculpture, storytelling, and political activism.

From scenes of ice and snow to objects that signify holiday and entertaining traditions, art at the MFAH shows how cultures around the world reflect on winter. Curatorial staff members share favorite works of art that relate to the season.

HOME—So Different, So Appealing is bookended by two monumental installations by Daniel Joseph Martinez—both architectural, and both addressing how an American ideal can have unintended implications. 

Artist Farhad Moshiri’s contemporary take on an ancient Perisan artform—the carpet—is strengthened by a historical example also on view in the Museum.
